What is the speed limit on the motorway?

YOU don't deal with them, because if you slow traffic to your speed, you could be prosecuted for driving without due care & attention, causing a traffic hold up, & anything else the police want to throw at you. There are various speed limits on the motorway depending on the cl of vehicle. 70 Mph for Cars, motorbikes over 50cc, vans up to 3.5 tonne & small coaches. Vehicles over 7.5 tonne have a 60mph speed limit, but are limited by the EU to 56 Mph ( 90 Kph) Large coaches are limited to 62 Mph ( 100 Kph) In recent months the 7.5 tonne truck has been limited ( wrongly ) to 56 Mph adding to the congestion on the inside lanes. ANY vehicle fitted with a speed limiter is banned from the outside ( overtaking lane ) on a road - 'A' & Motorway with 3 or more lanes - so theoretically, the poser in his BMW M5 ( limited to 155 mph ) is banned !!! Apart from the regularly calibrated Tachographs on commercial vehicles / coaches the majority of speedometers are out by a few mph, so if you are showing 73 mph you could only be doing 67 mph! For the poster who says that speed causes accidents you are wrong. People cause accidents through inattention & taking unnecessary risks & thinking that braking systems such as ABS etc are a substitute for being alert!
