How do I wean a 6 month old off his pacifier?

He screams because he pulls it out of his mouth. He's losing sleep because of it. I think I will just give it to him when he's going to bed for the night and not put it back in his mouth after his night feed. Maybe cut them out for nap times as well. Any other ideas?
