My 8 month old lab ate a rock - not a totally smooth one but nothing too sharp - do i need to act on this asap

As mentioned earlier, the rock wasn't a smooth pebble, a hair rough. Probably a little smaller than a bottle cap - I tried getting it away but he ran from me and had swallowed it by that time (he's quite ornery!!) Any help
