POLL: Why do people gather at the sites of a deceased CELEBRITY?

I don't understand this. I saw on the news that there was hundreds of people gathering the home of Michael Jackson, at UCLA Hospital, etc. I, too, am saddened by his death; especially it was untimely due to drugs and/or physical stress from his upcoming performances. But, what is accomplished by piling-up in front of these locations???
