I'm learning the b...?

And i guess my question is how long is it going to take to get good, i feel like i've gotten better in the time i've been learning but i still play quite clumsy and pause and stop. in fairness i've been playing for less than a month and i know it will take time i just want to know roughly how long till i'm confident with plucking and muting while moving my fingers around the neck. Oh another thing is it better to play with fingers or pick. i use fingers but if i should be using a pick then it's not to late to change style.
